Italian Verre églomisé V
(17"x21") 18th century reverse glass painting of a romantic Italian scene. Reverse paintings, done in gilding and cold painting, became popular in the later middle ages dating back to the 15th century. The technique was revived and named 'verre églomisé' by French decorator Jean-Baptiste Glomy(1711-1786) in the mid 18th century. This piece is one in a series of seven paintings.
