Colonial Sea Captain Sculpture
This colonial sea captain sculpture commands the attention of anyone who lays eyes on it. Dressed in a traditional blue double-breasted sea jacket with a high collar and gold buttons, this captain exudes strength and bravery through his broad shoulders and sharp, focused facial features. His passionate, deep-set eyes appear as if he is scanning the seas for signs of trouble. This bust, which doubles as a hat model, seems to be made of painted wood. Deep carvings have been made to render wavy brown hair and textured shoulder epaulettes, which were typically worn by sea captains to indicate their higher status. Hat models were often used to store hats, necklaces, and wigs. They were used in shops or boutiques to display merchandise, as well as for personal use in a bedroom or related setting. Occasionally, hat models featured secret compartments where ladies hid their most prized jewels, brooches, or trinkets. Although this sculpture does not appear to have a secret compartment, this captain would make an excellent gift for a sea-lover in your life. Or, keep it for yourself to display some of your most valued possessions.
