The oldest known printed text originated in China during the first millennium A.D., and books became prevalent in Chinese society by the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279). The first mass produced book, an agricultural treatise called Nung Shu, was printed in 1297. The printing press did not appear in Europe until 1440, when German inventor Johannes Gutenburg (c. 1394/1406–1468) began experimenting with printing techniques. The Gutenberg press was perfected in 1450, at which point mass book production began in Europe. This Scandinavian book collection comprises 33 books, including 19 Swedish books, with publication dates ranging from 1906–1950, and 14 Danish books, with publication dates ranging from 1904–1960. The books are mostly leatherbound in a variety of complementary colours. Many of the spines have gilded elements. Some of the books feature marbled covers or endpapers. Marbling is a method of surface design that involves floating pigments or dyes on water or a viscous solution, and then carefully transferring the resulting designs onto an absorbent surface, typically paper or fabric. This Scandinavian book collection is the perfect design accessory to add variety to an interior, or height to shelf displays. 

At this time in Denmark, producer Ole Olsen (1863–1943) founded Nordisk Film in 1906 in Copenhagen. The company produces and co-produces both national and international feature films in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Nordisk Film is the fourth-oldest film studio in the world and the oldest studio to be continuously active to this day.
